During conversation in one of our fitness groups a client was discussing doing two-a-days in honor of football season coming up. This was nothing new for him, he had done them before in situations where he needed to make up some sessions or try something new. As he was boasting about doing a few days in a row in that manner the Titus coach threw out an idea called ‘The Titus Ten’ – ten workouts in one week. Nothing really came of it other than some small talk. During the next few weeks after the Titus coaches discussed the idea we starting talking to other clients about it, other clients seemed interested and told us to let them know if and when we would do it. So after much planning and thinking of how we would pull this off we decided to make the first Titus Ten the week of August 8th. We didn’t expect many more than 5 or 6 people to take on the challenge simply from a time standpoint, not many people have the time to commit 10 hours of their week to training (without travel – our facility is 30 minutes from several client’s homes). So we put together an email and Facebook campaign to build interest and see who would be interested. We got an overwhelming response regarding people wanting to take it on (15+). The idea was simply to see who would be willing to take on a bit more comprehensive and intense training week to change things up and do some new things in the sessions.
We put together a sound physical training program to allow for proper recovery and limit any chance of overtraining. So we have three two-a-day workouts scheduled for m-w-f and four one-a-day workouts for t-th-s-s. We would rotate from a regular dynamic fitness workout to an active mobility/torso/medball throws/jumps workout to an upper body/torso-stability/machines cardio workout throughout the week. We are getting the chance to showcase our expertise in programming since we are showing and implementing some new exercises to complete the training week, and emphasizing stretching/mobility routines along with tissue recovery training with the foam rollers. All in all it’s an exciting week to see how many people were up for the challenge.
We had a total of 14 clients complete the challenge!! We have many prizes to give away – Titus bags, towels, coffee mugs, magnets, and medals (pictures to follow). We informed clients about proper hydration techniques since most all our sessions are out in the elements (i.e. Heat and humidity) and we have provided on-site bottled water and G2 to help re-hydrate individuals during and after workouts.
Those that completed the challenge got a T-shirt stating such an accomplishment along with a medal, nike bag, and magnet. Those that attempted but didn’t complete the challenge got a medal, magnet, and coffee cup/towel (choice). We followed the events on Facebook by posting pictures and videos from the groups. Two really cool storylines were one client changed her work shift from 6a-2p to 8a-5p in order for her to be available to complete the Ten. Another client flew in from out of town at 1:30am and still made it to the 6am workout. Those are great stories of commitment and what Titus is all about – creating such a positive group environment that people will do whatever they can to get that experience as frequently as possible.
We can’t even put in to words the energy levels and experience that was captured during this event. Every day that went by people were more and more impressed with the structure and atmosphere of the classes, and the personalities/relationships that were forming along the way. We had numerous emails/personal conversations indicating how much fun this event was and how much everyone appreciated the extra work and programming that they experienced. For many people this was a lifetime achievement simply because they had never worked out this much, or they were talking about how they hadn’t worked out this much since they were in high school. Those types of comments are what made this so special because we knew that we were creating a new memory for them that would stick with them for the rest of their lives. Everyone is looking forward to the next event!!
